How to tune your Violin/ Viola or Cello
The first thing you need is to download a tuner, I recommend the BEST TUNER app.
You can tune your violin by using the PEGS , each string has it’s own PEG.
( USE THE PEGS WHEN THE STRINGS ARE VERY OUT OF TUNE to avoid breaking them).
To get higher sounds : turn the pegs clockwise.
to get lower sounds , turn the pegs anticlockwise .
You can tune your violin using the tuner twisting clockwise to get higher or loosening them to get lower
you need to know the sequence of notes,
The sound is getting higher from :
♭ (flat) → ♮ (natural)→ ♯ (sharp)
The sequence of notes going UP(HIGHER) are (7 MUSIC LETTERS:A,B,C,D,E F,G)
In your tuner:
A♮→A# →B♮ →B♯→C♮ →C♯→D♮ →D♯→E♮→ E ♯→F♮ →F♯→G♮ →G♯
Sounds are going higher when you are going up the staircase.(between each note you have the sharp= #)
Sounds are going lower when you are going down the staircase, you will see the Flat=♭ on the digital tuner)
The digital tuner STRINGS:
Violin :G3, D4, A4, E3
How the digital tuner works?
Ex: let’s pretend you are tuning your A string , you should see the green triangle on the green line saying A 4
And as you can see in the picture your tuner is showing A#4, so in this case you need to loosen the pegs/tuners anticlockwise.
A# to A it is just a half step so do NOT loosen too much.
Now, let’s pretend you still trying to tune the A string and you see a G sign, what you need to do? Think about the staircase, G3 IS 1 STEP BEFORE A4, SO YOU NEED TO TIGHTEN CLOCKWISE your peg/tuner, By going half step ( G#) plus another half step to arrive on A4.
